Chinese culture in center stage of Paris

China's traditional culture is being shown off in Paris in a nine-day World Expo 2010 promotion featuring Kunqu Opera, traditional puppet shows, folk music and classical compositions.

The Shanghai Expo organisers will launch an Expo photo show and a promotion meeting on Tuesday to explain the status of preparations and attract French visitors to the event. The promotion kicked off yesterday.

Since Paris is a European center of culture, organizers expect that cultured French people will understand the Expo spirit through displays of China's culture and traditions.

"Culture plays a big role in World Expos," said Hong Hao, director of the Shanghai Expo Bureau of Coordination. "We hope the promotion will help the French people learn more about the Expo 2010 Shanghai via understanding more of Chinese culture and tradition."

Chairman of Paris Chamber of Commerce Pierre Simon yesterday said many members of the chamber want to begin their Expo participation at the promotion.

He also said the chamber will help Paris select the city's best urban practices to be showcased in the Urban Best Practices Area, a highlight of Expo. The Expo theme is "Better City, Better Life."(Source£ºwww.expo2010china.com)
